CYSTO URETEROSCOPY AND/OR PYELOSCOPY WITH LITHOTRIPSY
Tuesday, April 22nd
Matthew and I headed down to MUSC for an outpatient procedure to remove the right uretal stone.
We drove down that morning and arrived to Main Hospital at 8:30am. Surgery was supposed to start around 10:50 but there were a few delays so we waited in pre-op from about 11:15 to 1:00pm waiting for our turn. That was a real stree-free time.
The procedure itself didn’t take very long, maybe about 45 minutes. But recovery lasted until 8pm. Long story short, Matthew was fine, procedure went totally as planned, recovery was normal. But to spare you the gory details there were just a few things we needed to see improvement on before we left. If we were local we probably would have chanced it and gone home assuming all was well and if he didn’t progress as needed we’d just head back in to the ED. Since we are about an hour and half away we didn’t want to risk having to drive back down later that night.
We made it a goal to get out of there by 8pm when the night shift changed over so he didn’t get stuck overnight! Around 6:45/7pm, Matthew was feeling much better and we saw some improvement in the right direction. Bless his heart, he thought you just get up and walk out like you do from the ED. Yeah, no. We made it out right at 8pm and not a minute sooner.
Procedure Performed:
- Cystoscopy with Right ureteral stent placement
- right ureteroscopy
- laser lithotripsy with stone extraction
