Adventures in Juicing
I'm going to put together a better post on juicing but I can't do it without M's help because like everything else in the kitchen, he's the one in charge of this arena. I'll try to follow behind him over the weekend to write down the recipes he's been making--he usually just throws variations of the ingredients below into the Vitamix without a real recipe.
This isn't the first time I've tried juicing but I've never really stuck with it. I don't like to use it as a cleanse because it's TOO HARD!!! I quit every time. And I'm not good with juice as a meal replacement; again I just quit. So this time around I'm looking at it as an easy way to slam dunk some fruits and vegetables into my diet. After just a few weeks, my body is craving it!
Current Grocery List:
- pineapple
- green apples
- lemons
- limes
- cara cara oranges
- frozen blueberries
- frozen mango
- frozen berry mix (fruit varies depending on where I buy it)
- strawberries
- bananas
- carrots
- celery
- cucumber
- spinach
- mint
- parsley
- flax seed
As I said, we're not really using a strict recipe but here's the gist of what goes in. You may want to eye ball it a little bit and adjust to taste.
- Handful of spinach
- 2 green apples
- cup of frozen fruit
- a dash of parsley or mint
- 2 carrots
- 1 stalk of celery
- 1/2 orange
- 1/2 lime
- 1/4 lemon
- a few pieces of pinapple
- handful of ice
We haven't used these yet because of the strong flavors but they are so full of antioxidants so I hope to ease them into some juices.
- Beet
- Ginger
- Tumeric
- Kale
I bought these awesome containers a few weeks ago from Sur La Table and they are really great at keeping produce fresh longer. I love that you can write on the white part of the lids so you can keep and easy eye on dates which is especially helpful for leftovers. M doesn't like using the little dry erase pen it came with so he uses painters tape instead. That's the blue you see in the photo above.
In the picture above the Spinach is in the Extra-Large container, the pineapple in the Large and lemons and limes are both in the Medium. I did find a few sets available online here that look like they're cheaper than buying the pieces individually.
