Crazy Wonderful {shoe bow tutorial}

Speaking of style, let's talk about shoes m'kay?
Every woman has a pair of plain black heels.

They're your go to, never fail heels.

They work hard for you, so... let's make them work a little harder shall we?!
My husband and I have a vacation coming up soon, which means date night every night - squeal!!!  I want a few shoe options, but don't want to pack a bunch of shoes, so I came up with a couple of ways to dress up/switch up my plain black heels.
Version One

What you'll need:

• Two 16 inch long strips of ribbon (I used 1.5 inch wide grosgrain)
• Two 4 inch long strips of ribbon
• Needle and thread or sewing machine
• Glue and glue gun
• 2 bobby pins

STEP ONE:  Start folding one of the 16 inch long pieces of ribbon over on itself self back and forth until you're happy with the width and position of the bow.



STEP TWO:  Using a sewing machine (or needle and thread) run a stitch through the middle to keep the layers in place.

STEP THREE:  Attach one of the 4 inch long strips to create the center of the bow.  Run a bead of hot glue along the back of the bow and attach an end of the 4 inch strip.  Wrap the rest around the front, and then secure the end at the back with another bead of hot glue.

STEP FOUR:  Break off any piece of the wavy side of the bobby pin that might be exposed once attached to the bow.  I just bent it back and forth until it snapped off.  Depending on the width of fabric or ribbon you use, this part may or may not apply.

 

STEP FIVE:  Secure the wavy end of the bobby pin to the back of the bow with hot glue.  Make sure there's not so much hot glue that it glues both sides of the bobby pin together.  Not that I did that or anything ;D

Repeat for the second shoe and you're done!

Version Two

My little girl's favorite - she thinks it looks like Tinkerbell, I agree :D

What you'll need:

• Fabric - 2 strips of fabric 1 yard long by 2 inches wide
• Sewing machine and thread
• Hot glue and glue gun
• Felt (cut into two small circles, approx. 1.5 inches wide)
• 2 bobby pins

STEP ONE:  Fold one strip long ways and sew along the folded edge using the longest stitch length available on your sewing machine.  Make sure NOT to back stitch at the beginning or end and DON'T clip your beginning and ending threads.

STEP TWO:  Pull one of the end threads (which ever one pulls easiest) to create the ruffle.  Once your ruffle is created, pull open the edges of the ruffle for a fuller look.

STEP THREE:  Pick and end and start rolling the ruffle up to create the flower.  These two photos show the back of the flower (the folded seam).

STEP FOUR:  Add a healthy amount of hot glue to the back of the flower and attach one of the felt circles.  Hold in place until well dried.

STEP FIVE:  Attach the wavy side of a bobby pin to the back with hot glue.

Repeat for the second shoe and you're done!

I love both versions, but I think my favorite way to wear them is by combining the two.

There are SO many options.

Think flats, sandals, wedges, open toe...

Striped ribbon, polka dot fabric...

The possibilities are endless so have fun!!!
