More Den Progress | Hale Navy Walls and Trim

Happy almost-the-weekend!  I realized that I haven't really shown any progress shots of our den and man has there been some work going on!  We painted the walls and chair rail Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore last summer (you can see that here) and have now decided that all the trim work needed to go dark as well.  Including the new glass door and the window casings.  It's so freaking good.

For those of y'all that are new, this is our old dining room and it's located just off the front hallway and next to the kitchen.  It's a decent size but our dining room furniture more than filled the space and it felt cramped when we entertained.  I come from a really big family so the few times a year we need a real dining room we need some elbow room.  And as many awesome rooms as this house has, it didn't have a cozy little den which my husband wanted most of all.  So far we have loved making the switch and used this room all the time.  I'm ready to put it back together and have this space back!

You can see below where Matthew rebuilt the entire wall of built-ins he salvaged from our family room against the back wall in here.  I'm so freaking impressed by his skills.  A lot of the bottom cabinets were able to be reconfigured in here but the tops needed to be completely re-done.  They weren't in very good shape after being torn out.

Obviously this room is a major work in progress still.  In fact, it's sat looking exactly like this for weeks (months?) now.  This project has been so much more work than Matthew anticipated and he just needed to walk away from this one for awhile.  I've been begging him to sit down and write some tutorials on some of the handiwork he does.  Y'all know the realm of my skills does not include power tools or sharp measurements.

Anyway, I think this room is kicking booty and I just wanted to share where we are with it.  I am envisioning a sexy (why can't I think of a better description?) and masculine Don Draper of a room.  Somewhere you take a pre-dinner drink straight up.  It's got so much potential and I can't wait to see it unfold!

I've promised Matthew that I will remain hands off and let him style the shelves as he sees fit.  This is going to be really hard for me!  Maybe I can get y'all to help me convince him to turn this room over to me as well!
